From $490 MXN per person. That is the short answer if you are looking for the price of a Tequila tour departing from Guadalajara, and it is what ours costs.
The longer answer is more useful, because prices on this route vary enormously and it pays to understand why before booking.
What it actually costs, in ranges
Looking at what is on offer in Guadalajara in August 2026, a Tequila tour runs from roughly $500 to over $3,000 MXN per person. That is a sixfold difference for visiting, fundamentally, the same town.
That spread is not arbitrary. It comes down almost entirely to four factors.
What drives the price up
- Transport. A shared van costs far less than a touring coach with onboard service, and far less again than the train. The vehicle is the single biggest line in the bill.
- Group size. A private or very small-group tour splits the same fixed costs among fewer people, and that shows up directly in the per-person price.
- What is included. Meals, entry to brand-name distilleries, premium tastings or an open bar all push the figure up. A tour without lunch included will always look cheaper, even if you end up spending in town.
- The distillery. The big houses with a built-out visitor experience charge admission. Artisanal factories tend to be cheaper and, in our view, you learn more in them.
What is usually included, and what is not
On almost any tour along this route you will find round-trip transport, a visit to at least one distillery, some tastings and a guide.
What is almost never included unless explicitly stated: lunch, drinks beyond the tastings, shopping in town and tips.
That is where most people get caught out. A tour advertised at $490 and one at $1,200 can end up costing much the same if the second includes lunch and the first does not. Compare what is included, not just the headline number.
How payment usually works
The norm on this route is a deposit to hold your seat and the balance on the day. In our case the deposit is $200 MXN and the rest is settled as you board the van.
That structure has a practical advantage: you are not tying up the full amount weeks ahead. And do check the cancellation policy, because deposits on this route are usually non-refundable, ours included.
What you will spend on top
A realistic budget for a full day, on top of the tour:
- Lunch in town: between $150 and $350 per person, depending on where and what.
- Cantaritos or other drinks: around $100 to $200.
- A bottle to take home: from $250 for small-factory bottles, with no ceiling if you go for an extra añejo.
- Tips for the guide and driver: whatever you think fair, they are not compulsory.
With a $490 tour, a full day usually lands between $900 and $1,300 per person all in. That is the honest figure.
When cheapest is not worth it
Not everything cheap is a good deal. Be wary if the group is enormous, because on a fifty-seat coach everything takes three times as long. Also if time in town is token: some itineraries leave you twenty minutes in Tequila, which is not enough for anything.
And if the tour only visits shops rather than distilleries. That is the model that sustains a very low price through commissions, and you notice quickly.
Before booking, ask how many people are going, how much free time there is in town, and whether the visit is to a working factory or to a shop.
